About the Project

A berth integrity assessment in CT1 in Jebel Ali Port was awarded to ARTI Proje by DP World after the fire incident occurred in July 2021

The consultant made a site visit to inspect the condition of the wall and learn the details of the work scope and the Employer’s Requirements. It is observed that the fire event had no significant effect on the wall itself and damage is mostly limited to the surface of the concrete and non-structural steel members along the utility and cable canals.

Our Work Scope

Site inspections were carried out at Berth 14 to determine the condition of the quay wall after the incident occurred in July 2021. The work included diver inspection of the underwater sections, visual inspections of the on-land parts of the berth and core sample tests to determine the compressive strength. Structural analysis of the quay wall was also carried out to evaluate the stability of the structure.

The berth is a gravity type quay wall composed of multiple layers of precast concrete blocks.

The fire incident occurred in July 2021 caused by a moored vessel along the berths 14-3 to 14-9 resulted in damages mostly on the topside of the quay.

The fire was spread over a large area, including the apron.

JEBEL ALI PORT CT1

The Objective of the Study

The objective of the study has been to assess the integrity of the quay wall section in question to develop an understanding of the quay wall capacity for future port operations in the remaining period of its economical lifetime.

In order to achieve this goal, condition surveys were first done at the site and the collected information was later used to carry out quay wall stability analysis. The condition survey phase included diver inspections and concrete core sampling/testing.
