Inspection of Existing Structures

In Ras Abu Fontas Power and Water Plant Complex, the total installed power capacity is about 1,550 MW and water production is about 180 MIGD. The complex consists of six stations, constructed in phases as per the growing demand for power and water.

Our Work Scope

LF Consulting Engineers were requested to design the common outfall and to assist the Client in submitting a Minimum Functional Specification to be included in the Bid Document for tendering.

ARTI Proje was hired by ILF for the inspection and evaluation of the current intake and outfall systems as well as to analyze possible alternatives to provide a new outfall system concept with preliminary system design and cost estimate and avoid the present coastal pollution and environmental problems.

In this respect, it was taken into consideration the possible developments with the implementation of station E.

The project area is located on Ras Abu Fontas in the eastern coast of Qatar. The plant complex is located approximately 10 kilometers away from the center of Doha at the south.

The Ras Abu Fontas Power and Water Plant Complex was built in 1993 and expanded in time to meet the growing demand.

Within the scope of the study, two alternative common outfall system options were evaluated: a gravity flow and a pumped flow option.

Expected performance characteristics along with the advantages and hurdles of each system were evaluated in detail.

Both system options guarantee discharge of maximum flow to deeper waters, with no interference with the ongoing plant operations during construction and sufficient system redundancy.
